Managing FHIR Resources

Choose a supported FHIR version, create and manage resources, search safely, and understand deletion options in Device Data FHIR Service (DDFS).

Start with the deployed DDFS capability statement, and then follow the task that matches your workflow. Resource, interaction, operation, and search support can differ between the R4 and R6 API surfaces.

Choose a FHIR Version

Compare FHIR versions and select a versioned FHIR API base URL.
Review the FHIR R4 resources and FHIR R6 resources for the selected API surface.
Review the published FHIR definitions.

Create and Manage Resources

Create with client-assigned IDs and restore deleted resources using PUT, when advertised by your server.

Create a FHIR resource and verify the server response.
Follow the CRUD lifecycle through create, read, update, versioned read, and logical delete.
Send up to 25 independent requests in a batch.
Plan and test Patient access.

Search Resources

Use Administrative Deletion

A standard FHIR DELETE is a logical delete. Permanently deleting one logically deleted resource and purging groups of logically deleted resources are separate, irreversible administrative operations with additional authorization requirements.
