Warm Pools for Sandboxes
A warm pool prepares idle sandbox capacity in a project so that capacity is available for new sandbox requests.
Warm pools are optional. Configure them when creating a project, or open the project's Warm pools tab to view its pools. Each pool has a name and a runtime configuration.
Warm Pool Types
| Pool type | Configuration |
|---|---|
| Managed (default) | Use a service-managed runtime image. The create-project form includes a name, compute shape, and desired idle-capacity target. |
| Custom | Supply your own container image and select a name, compute shape, and desired idle-capacity target. See Using a Custom Image for a Sandbox. |
The desired idle-capacity target is the amount of prepared, unused capacity that you want the pool to maintain. Select a value supported by the Console and your service limits.
Networking and Warm Pools
| Networking mode | Managed pool | Custom pool |
|---|---|---|
| Managed | Service-managed networking and runtime image. | Service-managed networking with your container image. |
| Custom | Your subnet and optional NSGs with a service-managed runtime image. | Your subnet and optional NSGs with your container image. |
For custom networking, configure the subnet and optional NSGs at the project level. See Networking for Sandboxes.
Configuring Pools During Project Creation
- In Create project, enable sandboxes and select the networking mode.
- Under Warm pool configuration, select a pool type.
- Enter a unique name and complete the image, shape, and idle-capacity fields shown for that type.
- To configure another pool, select Add pool. To create the project without pools, remove all pool entries.
- Create the project. Pools are created asynchronously after the project becomes active.
See Sandbox Configuration for the complete project workflow.
Viewing Warm Pools
Open a project and select Warm pools. The list shows each pool's name, status, warm pool type, compute shape, container image, and current warm pool usage. Search by pool name to narrow the list.
If there are no pools, the tab displays No warm pools. Select Add warm pool to open the configuration form. The Projects navigation also contains a Warm pools entry.
Review a pool's status before using its capacity. Creating a pool is asynchronous, and the service validates the configuration and image before the pool becomes active.
